Quite simply, a blog is a frequently updated online personal journal or diary. It is a place to express yourself to the world. A blog is one of your communication tools for your website that you need to update on an on-going basis. When done well, bloggers do not only produce content to post on their blogs, but also build relations with their readers and other bloggers. Many blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and in some instances even message each other via technical widgets on the blogs.
So what types of blogs work can work best for your firm. Shorter blog posts are ones that are usually around 200 words. This type of blog is best used when a firm/business is trying to sell a product or service. This is particularly effective because you are getting directly to the point with your “call to action”. If you want visitors to your website to subscribe to a newsletter subscription, for example, keep it short and sweet. People have the tendency to have short attention spans and you don’t want them to forget the real reason what brought them to your blog in the first place.
On the other side, more and more blog posts written nowadays are over 1,000 words. The reason why somebody would write so many words is because it’s excellent for SEO.
According to some incredibly detailed research released early in 2014, the top 10 results from Google all have a minimum of at least 2,000 words. This is because Googlebot, Google’s web crawler, looks at every piece of content on a page, such as words, titles and whatever other information you have shared. So, when you have a post that has 1,500 plus words you have more flexibility with keywords, meaning that you are not limited to one or two specific keywords. Instead, you can include a lot more of keywords that may not be specific, but are still relevant to your theme. This works because Google just does not provide exact results, but results that are related to the subject.
Blogs can be a very effective marketing tool for your firm and when done well they can significantly help with increasing your ranking with Google.
