Source Awards Criteria

Source, the new name of the Symphony Legal annual conference will take place on Thursday 12 September 2019 at Jurys Inn, Hinckley Island near Leicester followed by an evening of entertainment, dinner and awards.

An integral part of this prestigious event is the recognition given to firms and individuals who have excelled in their chosen fields.

This year we have nine categories for awards:

• Law Firm of the Year

• Symphony Legal Member Firm of the Year*

• Local Law Firm of the Year

• Niche Law Firm/Specialist Team of the Year

• Most Innovative Marketing Award

• Outstanding Client Service

• Managing Partner/Director of the Year

• Product/Service Provider of the Year

• Non Lawyer of the Year

*The Symphony Legal Member Award is not open for nominations and is awarded solely at the discretion of the consultants who work with our member firms.

Anyone can submit an entry as long as they or the firm/company/individual they are entering meet the criteria for the relevant category. We only ask that you check that you will be available (if shortlisted) to attend the Awards Dinner at Jurys Inn, Hinckley Island Hotel. There is no limit on the number of awards a firm can apply for and there is no charge for entry.

Entries are now open until 27 Aug and winners will be announced at the Awards dinner.

Law Firm of the Year

The judges will be looking for evidence of a firm which really stands out from the crowd with some noticeable achievements to its credit. This could be in areas such as outstanding financial performance, new client relationships, a successful restructuring, a merger or acquisition or innovative developments in staff relations and remuneration

Symphony Member Firm of the Year

The judges have invited entries from consultants working with Symphony member firms who have in their opinion ‘realised their value’ over the last 12 months. The winner will be a firm that has adapted to changes facing the profession and identified ways of realising value for their clients and for themselves.

Entry: Nominations by Symphony Legal consultants only.

Local Law Firm of the Year

This award recognises the important role that law firms play in their local communities. The judges will be looking for evidence of:

  • Legal expertise and service delivery designed to meet the needs of a local community.
  • Engagement with local community
  • Willingness and planning to face the challenges of the current marketplace

Niche Law Firm/Specialist Team of the Year

This award is designed to showcase those firms that have decided to concentrate on doing what they are best at. It is also open to Specialist Teams, where teams can show that they are doing something genuinely different. Judges will be looking for evidence of:

  • Strategic vision
  • Clear focus
  • Success in their specified area of work

Most Innovative Marketing/Business Development Idea

Back by popular demand, this award is open to any firm that believes in doing things differently. The judges will be looking for evidence of innovation and achievement - but if the results from your idea have yet to be realised, don’t be shy! We still want to hear from you.

Outstanding Client Service

The SRA Code of Conduct places client care at the forefront of its outcomes-focused regulations with an emphasis on treating clients fairly and providing them with the

best possible information at all times. The judges will be looking for evidence of a firm which has fully embraced this requirement by engaging with its clients in a manner which seeks to build long-lasting relationships with them and add commercial value to their businesses.

Managing Partner/Director of the Year

It is generally recognised nowadays that running a successful law firm depends on more than just being a good lawyer. With a widened legal marketplace and ever-discerning clients, the management of a law firm is critical to future success. The role of Managing Partner/Managing Director has been embraced by many and the importance of this role recognised.

The judges will be looking for evidence of a clear vision and plan that is understood and adopted throughout the firm.

The winner would need to demonstrate good management principles and innovative thinking when it comes to getting the most out of their team. (CEOs and Practice Directors are also eligible for nomination).

Product/Service Provider of the Year

This award is to be presented in recognition of the value that a legal service provider has added to a law firm. The winner should demonstrate how they have supported the legal sector and how that support resulted in increased growth and/or increased the value and professionalism of the service offered.

Product/service providers can either nominate themselves or be nominated by one of their clients, however in both instances, we require evidence that performance has improved and value has been added.

Non-Lawyer of the Year

This award will be presented to a member of the law firm team who has added value to that law firm through the role that they have undertaken. The winner will need to demonstrate how their role has contributed to the overall success and growth of the firm and/or improved the service received by clients.

Nominations should provide an outline of the role held by the non-lawyer, and evidence of how that role has contributed to success at the firm.

Advice to Awards Entrants

Some formal points:

  1. Part of the reason for holding these awards is to find and showcase examples of where firms and lawyers have responded to the challenges we face today. We will detail the success stories at the conference and reserve the right to also refer to them in any publicity after the event. If you wish any details to be kept confidential, we will respect that, but please make that clear in your entry.
  2. Our panel of expert judges will take every care in coming to a decision but once made, will not explain their decision to any unsuccessful party.
  3. Symphony Legal reserve the right to include or exclude an entry received after the closing date but before the judge’s review. It is up to entrants to ensure that entries are received.
  4. Winners and runners-up will be entitled to use the Award Logo in any marketing communications for the period of 1 year.
  5. By submitting their entries, entrants agree to co-operate with any publicity surrounding the award and consent to use of photographs, firm name and other relevant details in connection with the award.
